Dear Alain and all,
Apologies for the delay in my reply. Indeed these tests slipped a bit our attention during the IST preparation meetings, as – beside the interfaces between the UPS and PIC – we primarily test the redundant UPS powering of machine protection equipment, which is more in the scope of MPP than of the MPE group proper.
For me these tests should indeed be done (and hence included in the planning), this is also coherent to what we presented last time in the LMC where we proposed the strategy to repeat these tests only after long shutdowns (where the risk of changes to the systems is much bigger due to the many and bigger consolidation activities).
During this LS for example almost all battery packs of the UPS have been exchanged (following a fire incident during operation in P5), hence one more good reason to redo the tests.
Saying this, we do not necessarily have to do these tests before the cool-down or powering phase start, also as the tests include a lot of beam related systems (BLMs, LBDS,..) that most likely will not yet be ready and powered to be efficiently validated during the test. I would suggest to foresee this campaign to be done at a convenient moment sometime between the end of the training campaign and the start of the cld-checkout (when all systems are online).
I would assume we have ample of time to plan this there as well.
What I would suggest is to bring this as a short AOB to a future LHC MPP and ask our EN/EL colleagues to explain the changes done, after which MPP will endorse to do the tests and then you Alain could follow-up the organization and coordination along with them?
I don’t think we need a dedicated LMC presentation (as the strategy was endorsed last tie) but we could mention it during a future update from MPP (I cc as well Ivan as LMC secretary in case)?
